It’s December! That special time of the year where we write down what we think is our favorite stuff of the year, so we can read it a few years later and wonder what the hell we thinking. Peep the list after the jump!

magic man/ darling
if you love music then you should love this time of the year. it’s time for you to read people’s best of lists and discover all the gems you missed throughout the year; and magic man are the first band to that fit that bill for me this year. “darling” features great drums, synth riddled breaks and the catchiest use of the phrase “take me back where i stood” of 2k10.

cloud nothings/hey cool kid
heard this song on xmu a few months back and those guitars hooked me real quicklike. who cares if you can hardly tell what the 19 year old from cleveland, OH is saying- when you’re that young and you write, perform and record every instrument on the entire record in your basement by yourself, you deserve major props. give it up to child prodigies who have accomplished more in 19 years than you probably ever will! ;)

jaill/ summer mess
a quickie but goodie.

deerhunter/ revival
for you deerhunter obsessed people like myself this track is probably already old news, but nonetheless it’s worthy of another mention. this is the first released track off deerhunter’s new album slated to drop this fall entitled Halcyon Digest which hit the interwebs wednesday. the 7” single also includes another track “primitive 3d”. both songs sound amazing, with top-notch production done by ben allen—who had his hands on both animal collective releases last year, merriweather and fall be kind. those were okay i guess….

flying lotus/ mmmhmm
this dude is quickly becoming one of my favorite producers. his new record cosmogramma is off-the-wall crazy, and in a recent interview with pitchfork he told them he made the entire record in his apartment. really inspiring shit. peep that interview here.

cut copy/ where i’m going
been looking forward to this album, and this track just solidified that stance even more. great stuff!
